Frequent Questions about Room Revealer

How do you reveal the names of Hotwire and Priceline hotels?

We get the names of the mystery hotels through wizard magic(we're not telling). But we are fairly confident in the process. We would estimate at least 99.9% of all hotels are identified correctly and a misidentification is very rare. But it could hypothetically still happen as Hotwire and Priceline ultimately control which hotel you end up getting.

I see a different price than what is on RoomRevealer after clicking a link

This is an unfortunate part of the hotel booking process. Since Room Revealer does not actually book any hotels, we are dependant on other providers. And the hotel pricing process is as close to wizardry as you can get. You will get a different price depending on:

  • The time of day.
  • Which link you clicked (for example going to priceline.com directly will give you different price than clicking on a link from a different website).
  • If you are signed in or not.
  • Your geographical location.
  • What browser and device you are using.
  • The booker isn't including taxes and fees (sometimes these only show up at the end of checkout).
  • The advertised rate was made in error.
  • Recent inventory changes.
  • You looked at the website funny.

We can't get it right every time, but we think our prices are a general baseline of what you should expect. A few bucks above or below is normal variation. You can try to get a better price by trying to book on a different device, wait until later, or signing in.

Is it risky to book a Hotwire or Priceline mystery hotel?

As long as you know what you're doing, it should be fine. These are large companies that have handled millions of bookings, and most of the time it goes smoothly. But be warned these bookings can't be cancelled. Even if you buy the optional trip insurance it can still be difficult to get your money back. Only buy one of these if you're certain to be staying at the hotel.

How come many hotels have cheaper rates that aren't Hotwire or Priceline?

A lot of the rates provided by hotwire and priceline aren't that special. They are based on the standart rate contract they have with the hotel but might take a slightly smaller commission. It's not unusual other hotel bookers can beat a mystery hotel price, especially when you factor in the much higher fees the secret hotel rates charge.

What day is the best for booking a cheap hotel?

Tuesday, but it depends on a lot of factors.

Can I give you money?

No, thank you. We're doing just fine. If you like the site: tell your friends, post about it on message boards and other deal aggregator sites, and keep using it just like we do.
